  • Have you tried breathing exercises or light cardio?

Posted by Community Member on July 24, 2025 at 12:29 pm

Have you ever tried breathing exercises, a home workout, or something similar?

    • What kind of movement works best for you?
    • Have you noticed a difference in consistency?
    • Do you find that exercise makes symptoms worse?

A new study examines people with MG who did 6 weeks of at-home breathing exercises (inspiratory muscle training) combined with light aerobic exercise, and the results were surprisingly positive.

    They saw improvements in:

    • Lung strength and function
    • Walking distance
    • Shortness of breath
    • Overall endurance

I use a device called The Breather you can Google it. Seems to help my breathing. I use it every day.

Thanks for sharing that! It’s always helpful to hear about tools that are actually making a difference for others. Do you feel like using The Breather has changed how much energy you have throughout the day, or does it mostly help with lung strength?

I believe it has strengthen my lungs and anything that helps be breathe more helps with my energy. The device has different settings for inhaling and exhaling. I started at the low setting and increased each week.

I just started breathing exercises a few days before I had a breathing problem. They calmed me down and gave me control which really saved me from panicking. I had to put my cpac machine on anyway for a few hours but when I took it off I knew the exercises would help me. My pulmonologist gave me these links:

American Lung Association’s information page on pulmonary rehab:

That’s such a helpful tip, Tina. Moving forward, it’s great to have that peace of mind that something as simple as breathing exercises can make such a big difference when things start to spiral. Thanks for sharing those links too! Having a resource like that is ready when we need it is terrific. Have you found a favorite video or exercise so far? -Jodi, Patient Advocate
